Progress on the Kugelblitz base

Thought I'd post up a short update on this project. Havent gotten nearly as much done as hoped this weekend, but I've been "distracted". Friday night I picked up a 37" flat screen TV and a PS3, so I've spent most of my weekend watching movies & playing video games. But I was able to get some work done on this last night and this morning.

DML 1/35 M-46 Patton, Korean War

Time for the next project!

Another build that I started a few years ago, about the same time that I started the Kugelblitz that I just completed.

This build is Dragon/DML's 1/35 M-46 Patton, painted in a Korean War era Tiger paint scheme.

Kugelblitz Complete!!

This afternoon I completed the Kugelblitz. Since its the first build I've completed since November of 2008, I'm feeling very happy!

Prior to completion I used Pro-Modeler Black wash for the detailing, and then weathered it more using Winsor & Newton oil paints for a dot filter.

Overall I'm pretty happy w/ the results. Got a few things I wish I could change, but not enough to not be happy w/ the finish.

DML 1/35 Flakpanzer IV Kugelblitz

This project uses Dragon Model's 1/35 Scale Flakpanzer IV Kugelblitz.

A little bit of background that I've been able to gather. As the Allied forces in Europe gradually increased in air superiority, the Germans started looking more & more for self propelled anti-aircraft units. They eventually came to this design, which featured an enclosed turret, that protected the crew members from small arms fire, which previous flakpanzers lacked. Only a handful of units were actually manufactured, apparently only 5 or 6. There is some dispute as to whether they actually saw any service, but evidence seems to point that it actually did. If it did see service, it looks like it was only during the winter of 1944 & into the spring of 1945, during the Battle of Berlin. It is during the winter of 1944/1945 that I am trying to portray this model.

Now on to the kit.
